Missouri City Fines Residents for Chipped Paint, Mismatched Curtains

Pagedale, Missouri In this suburb of St. Louis, residents have been ticketed and fined by the town’s police force for violations that don’t even begin to make rational sense.

One resident, Valerie Whitner, has been fined for having chipped paint on the outside of her home and for not attaching a screen door to her back door. She’s been told by city officials she must replace her rain gutters, her siding and put up storm windows. They also told her to mend her fence, cut her lawn and seal up cracks in her home’s foundation. She owes the city more than $2,400.

Consider the source: "nanny-state". They have an agenda [get government out of our lives} which leaves me wondering about the veracity of their story. Maybe there's more [or less] to it than they're telling us

those officials sound like a sick bunch of bullies

Under this extensive code, authorities in Pagedale, Missouri, can slap homeowners with tickets and fines for such “violations” as having mismatched curtains hanging in their windows, or an unpainted wooden post in the front yard.

Officials can also issue fines to residents walking on the left-hand side of a crosswalk, hosting a barbecue in their front yard, allowing their children to play on the street in front of their homes, or wearing pants “below the waist.”

    Another Nanny State Town…too bizarre

Nanny State of the Week: Town inspection checks whether you cleaned your toilet

Local officials in a Minnesota town want to make sure their residents are keeping a tidy home.

Two landlords in Golden Valley, Minnesota, who recently found themselves on the receiving end of inspections from city housing officials now find themselves dragged into court to defend their right to privacy.

Even after one Minnesota judge ruled that Golden Valley can’t conduct inspections without a good reason, the city is spending more taxpayer money on an appeal.

Golden Valley’s rental ordinance gives inspectors access to every part of the home, including the bathroom and bedroom

Patio garden prompts flower fight between condo owner and strata council

Letter from strata says the blossoms are against the building's bylaws

    CBC News Posted: May 19, 2016 8:05 PM PT| Last Updated: May 22, 2016 7:15 AM PT

The property manager who signed the letter offered no explanation. She said she's simply the messenger and takes direction from the strata council.

14 days to tear garden down

That deadline was Wednesday, but Wadge and Gilbraith say they've bought themselves some time by contacting a lawyer, who has informed the strata the couple is about to take legal action.

"I don't want to say devastated given all the things that are going on in the world today," said Gilbraith. "But when you get to my age and you've got two or three hobbies left, this is a big chunk out of what I enjoy doing and what's left."
