One Response to Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out/Preservation Hall Jazz Band

  1. I was in New Orleans in 1980 and visited Preservation Hall to hear the music. The band performing that night was led by a wonderful woman named Sweet Emma, who had lost one arm but continued to play piano.
I was raised on jazz and blues and swing music. My father played standing bass in a dance band before I was born, played trumpet (and painted scenery) in the Canadian Army Show overseas in WWII, and played French horn in the city band when I was young.
After Mom, and then Dad, died, I told my brothers and sister that I only had one regret about the life our parents had together: I never got them to visit New Orleans.
